Hawaii - Climate

Hawaii has a tropical climate cooled by trade winds. Rainfall here is unpredictable while the windward side receives more precipitation than the leeward side. Mt. Waialeale, in Kauai, is reputedly the rainiest place on earth, with a mean annual total of 486 inches. Maui on the other hand receives less than 10 inches of rainfall annually. Summits of Mauna Loa, Mauna Kea, and Haleakala receive snowfall. Normal daily temperatures in Honolulu average 72°F (22°C) in February and 78°F(26°C) in August.
